The Diversity of The Human Experience
Privilege Survey | Week 3
This survey involved each of the students filling out a sheet where you basically counted the privileges you have had in your life and then we had to line up based from most privileged to least. Even though us standing up and basically exposing how privilege we were was controversial among students I think that it really did help me understand how different people's experiences in life are. I looked at the experiment in a very subjective way because you can't judge someone on how much privileges they have or don't they were just born with them or without. What I got from it is that no matter what experiences we have had we were all there at the moment and some of us had to do more, but we were able to get there. This assignment taught me that even though we are all different when it comes down to it we are all humans and we should all be treated equally no matter our background.
Where I am From Poem | Week 3
For this assignment we had to fill in parts to a poem where we would describe traits about ourselves and then some people ended up sharing theirs. This project was similar in the way that we were still describing who we were, bu it was on a more physical point of view. What I think was really interesting about this project was that people had such different answers. For example, in part where you had to fill in a specific ordinary item I picked paint, because painting is my passion, yet someone else would would say something like bird or computer. I learned that just as people have different privileges, we also have different personalities and I think when you understand both you can get sense for the type of person they are.
